Uganda Sets January 30 Release Date for 2025 Primary Leaving Examination Results

Uganda’s Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results for 2025 will be released on Friday, January 30, the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has announced, bringing clarity for more than 800,000 candidates and their families.

The release date was confirmed following a closed-door meeting on Wednesday evening between UNEB officials and the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataha Museveni, who also serves as First Lady. The results will be unveiled at 11:00 a.m. local time at State Lodge in Nakasero.

UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule said the minister expressed appreciation for the board’s efforts to ensure the results are released on schedule, despite concerns raised earlier this month over a temporary nationwide internet shutdown linked to the January 15 general elections.

Speculation that the internet disruption could delay the results was “strongly refuted,” according to UNEB. Ms Kalule emphasized that the marking, verification and quality assurance processes were completed as planned and were not affected by the interruption.

Data from UNEB shows that 818,010 candidates registered for the 2025 PLE, a 2.5% increase from the 797,444 candidates recorded in 2024. Girls accounted for the majority of candidates at 428,398, compared with 389,589 boys.

The results are being released a week later than those of 2024, which were announced on January 23. Under the national education calendar, candidates who qualify for secondary education are expected to report for Senior One on February 16.

The PLE marks a critical transition point in Uganda’s education system, determining placement into secondary schools and shaping the academic paths of hundreds of thousands of learners nationwide.
